A ROAD LESS TRAVELLED’
EXHIBITION BY JULIE LAWRENCE Opening Evening Thursday 16th of November 6:00 - 9:00 pm Until 8/12/23 Leeds Corn Exchange Julie is a Wirral based artist whose work is rooted in the Visionary Landscape Tradition, and is particularly inspired by the mystical perspective of William Blake and Samuel Palmer. She holds a BA (First Class Hons) in Art with Theology and Religious Studies and has an MA in Fine Art from Chester University. ‘A Road Less Travelled’ responds to a quiet walking time when evening descends into night. This is when I am most inspired by the effects of changing light on the almost unseen. These shifting momentary perceptions are then translated into pastel paintings when back in my studio. Working intensely and instinctively I manipulate wet and dry materials intuitively until my briefly glimpsed shadow evolves into a fleeting mix of memory and perception The ambiguous narratives that emerge are open to personal interpretation, inviting the viewer into a liminal place which stands on the threshold between nostalgic association and something unknown.
